After I got tired of the charcoal pencils being dusty and crumbly I switched over to these waxy black pencils. During 2011 I was using these quite a bit for my tumblr drawings. I liked that they are really smooth and really black almost indistinguishable from the charcoal pencils. They also had the benefit of being held together by wax so you could soften them up on the radiator. But, they also got used up quickly and required lots of sharpening.
As it notes on the pencil they write on glass, plastic and metal as well as paper. Maybe your great idea will be written on on metal! or glass!
